Makeup is a useful tool for covering imperfections, accentuating your best bits and generally injecting some glamour into any look.
In some instances, makeup can be used as an instant anti-ager, taking years off a woman’s face if applied correctly.
A beauty expert spoke exclusively to GB News about her top makeup tips for women over 50 if they want to achieve “younger-looking skin”.
Makeup artist and co-founder of Pilar BLLaC, Pilar DeMann, advised ladies in middle age and beyond to “keep it simple”. For example, rather than lathering concealer all over your face, it should only be used as and when it’s needed.
‘A good concealer strategically placed makes a huge difference’

She said: “A good concealer strategically placed makes a huge difference.”
When choosing a concealer, the expert urged women to match the colour “as closely to your skin as possible – and don’t go lighter”. As for how much to use, it should be applied “sparingly”.
Pilar said: “I use it in the inner and outer corners of my eyes, around my nose and on my chin, in very small amounts. The makeup creates an illusion of diffusion, a smoother, more even complexion.”
Foundation – “if you need foundation” – should also be used “sparingly” and “just where you need it”.
The expert also advised going for something that has a “sheer” finish. Sheer foundations typically provide a more natural look than full-coverage varieties.
As with concealer, Pilar advised only applying foundation to specific parts of the face. She said: “Some people will use it on their forehead and jawline, others on cheeks. A little always goes a long way.”
Ladies can also use blush to “add some brightness or warmth to their cheeks”. The expert explained: “We tend to lose dimension as we age, so a bit of brightness really wakes up our faces.
“Keep colour high on cheekbones and sweep up towards the temples or a smidge on the apples. I love cream-based products.”
She added: “Don’t be afraid of something bright. Stay away from orange.”

To highlight the eyes and make them look younger, Pilar instructed women: “Curl your lashes and apply a thickening mascara.
“I love Charlotte Tilbury. It really builds lashes and makes them thick. Mascara on a curled lash really opens the eye without making them heavy.”
For youthful lips, consider a tinted balm in pink or red – but always sheer. Pilar said: “This is always my recipe and I have found great success.”
A second makeup artist shared a top tip for women over 50 looking to revamp their look, revealing the eyebrow method that can “re-establish and lift the eye area”.
