Encouraging youngsters to put down their devices and play darts, he added: “Darts is a great game and I’d definitely encourage others to swap their phones for the board and give it a try.

“It’s a brilliant game that anyone should try.”

Asked if anyone could eventually become a Champ like him, he said: “I think you need a bit of natural talent for darts but if you’ve got it and you work hard and practice you can do well.

“There’s drills and certain practices you can do. Some people practice for six hours a day, some for less. But the key is to try and enjoy it.”
