Lidl is the latest supermarket to issue a product recall as two clothing items fall short of the necessary requirements.
Shoppers who have purchased the products will be able to return them to stores for a full refund if they wish, although customers have been reassured that they are safe to wear.
On its product recall notice page, the supermarket stated: “Owim GmbH & Co. KG would like to provide customers with an update on the ‘Men’s Sweatshorts’ in grey and black varieties – article number (IAN) 452727_2307.
“The supplier Owim GmbH & Co. KG would like to inform customers that the above-mentioned product, ‘Men’s Sweatshorts’ in grey and black varieties (IAN 452727_2307) does not meet the requirements of the ‘Recycled Claim Standard’.

“This is due to the fact that the ‘Recycled Claim Standard’ stipulates that the traceability of the product must be ensured through certification.
“Since Owim GmbH & Co. KG was unable to provide the necessary certification, it means that the ‘Recycled Claim Standard’ could not be validated. The product quality remains otherwise unaffected.
“As a result, customers are able to return this product to any Lidl store if they so wish. The full purchase price will be refunded with or without a receipt.”
The supplier apologised for any inconvenience caused to customers. Those who require further assistance were told to contact Customer Care at customer.care@lidl.co.uk or 0203 966 5566.
Several products have been recalled in recent days by retailers who sell to UK shoppers.
Britons were warned about a dangerous electrical appliance which presents a “serious risk of fire”.
Another electrical appliance has been intercepted at the border over a “high fire risk” to British homes. Food recalls must also be taken seriously to ensure customer safety.

Asda and Sainsbury’s recently pulled bread rolls from shelves as a packaging error may cause a “health risk”.
Regarding the recall, Food Standards Scotland stated: McGhee’s Family Bakers are recalling packs of 6 Scottish Brown Rolls.
“Due to a packaging error, several packs include white rolls which contain soya. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to soya.”
Shoppers were also warned that a sweet treat that can cause rashes, vomiting and nausea has been pulled from shelves.
