A supermarket has put a spoof plaque on its wall after rock star Liam Gallagher told fans he would “Gig at Lidl” if his Co-op Live arena shows fell through.

The ex-Oasis singer made the suggestion as an alternative to playing at Manchester’s Co-op Arena, which was beset with problems before it opened.

The Lidl in nearby Newton Heath said the blue plaque was on its “very own Wonderwall”.

Co-op Live’s early teething troubles have been resolved, and Gallagher is due to play there later this month.
