Leeds United have sent Djed Spence back to Tottenham after triggering a break clause to cut short his loan move.

The 23-year-old wing-back has made just seven Championship appearances after being hindered by a knee injury since joining on a season-long loan in August.

Spence picked up the injury during a training session not long after his arrival in the summer.

He went on to miss 12 league matches before returning to action during Leeds’ 2-0 win against Blackburn back in December.

The right-back joined Tottenham in 2022 from Middlesbrough for £20million before going out on loan to French side Rennes for the second half of last season.

Despite missing out on a raft of games between August and November, Spence came back to feature in six of Leeds’ last seven games.

His return to north London will come as a bonus for Ange Postecoglou, who’s side have been struggling with several injuries to key defenders of late.

Cristian Romero has been ruled out for an extended period with a hamstring injury, while Micky van de Ven has just this week returned to training following a soft tissue injury.

Tottenham are also in the race to sign Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo, with Manchester United and Chelsea also interested in the France international.

Spurs had held talks to sign the defender back in December and he could be worth around £35million.
