Innocent Asda customers have been left fuming after being banned from placing food deliveries thanks to postcode-wide “block lists”.

Shoppers in Leeds had been trying to book delivery slots from the retailer for weeks to no avail.

But when they eventually got in touch with Asda to work out why they couldn’t receive their groceries at home, they were told their postcode had been blocked off altogether.

Though they pleaded with the supermarket to reconsider, residents were told “no” – or promised a return call, which they say never came.

One said: “I have ordered from Asda for delivery for about five years now and never had an issue… I only noticed in August that they had suddenly blocked my postcode.

“I came to this conclusion when it said blocks were ‘sold out’ continuously for all deliveries… They gave me no notice of this at all.

“When I asked about it, they confirmed it was due to workers’ safety – and that certain postcodes had been blocked.

“When they told me this, I felt annoyed. I have never seen anything happen to any drivers or any anti-social behaviour in my street.

“It’s bizarre – the bungalow behind me gets deliveries all the time, and so does the house opposite – but they share a different postcode to me.

“There is no rationale behind it at all… I called Asda various times to discuss, and they have fobbed me off by promising to call me but they never do.”

The resident said they didn’t drive and spent around £150 per week on groceries – but has since taken their business to Tesco, where they said there was “no problem”.

“Asda is shocking. They simply don’t care about their customers,” the resident fumed, saying the whole block felt like it had “been done under the radar”.

An Asda spokeswoman said: “When we are made aware of repeated incidents of anti-social behaviour or abuse towards our home shopping colleagues, we may temporarily suspend deliveries to certain addresses.

“This is something that we keep under review to ensure our colleagues safety.

“We would like to thank our customers for their understanding.”
