A Labour MP who claimed he felt “threatened” in an altercation with a constituent yesterday landed a sucker-punch before punching a man six times when he was on the ground, CCTV footage has revealed.

Mike Amesbury, who was first elected to the House of Commons in 2017, landed several blows on a man during an incident at 2.15am on Saturday morning.

The Runcorn & Helsby MP appeared to throw the punches without physical provocation, footage obtained by MailOnline has suggested.

Amesbury, 55, who had served as Shadow Housing Minister under Sir Keir Starmer, was locked in conversation with the man before suddenly knocking him to the ground with a left hook to the head.
