King Charles may be familiar with a life of luxury, but doubt has been thrown on old claims reprinted in a new biography by royal author Omid Scobie.
A leaked extract from his new book ‘Endgame’, printed in the Sun newspaper, reads: “When laces get even the smallest bit threadbare, a staff member must quickly switch them out with a fresh, ironed pair.”
“There is even a rumour (one that, surprisingly, sources have confirmed) that Charles likes to have someone squeeze exactly one inch of toothpaste onto his toothbrush for him ahead of his bedtime routine.”
The claims are similar to Princess Diana’s former Butler, Paul Burrell’s, in a 2018 documentary.

​Burrell said that the then-Prince Charles requested his servants iron his shoelaces and squeeze toothpaste onto his toothbrush.
But a royal source, familiar with King Charles’s routine, has branded the claims false and joked royal staff wouldn’t even know how to iron shoelaces.
The revelations come a day before the royal biographer’s second book ‘Endgame’ is published which describes: “an unpopular King [Charles], a power-hungry heir to the throne [William], a Queen willing to go to great lengths to preserve her image [Camilla], and a prince forced to start a new life after being betrayed by his own family [Harry].
Omid Scobie’s first book, Finding Freedom, was co-written by Carolyn Durand and was perceived to be a sympathetic take on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s exit from the working Royal Family.
Meghan Markle insisted she had not collaborated on the book, but she apologised to London’s High Court in 2021 for forgetting she instructed an aide to brief the two journalists.
Defending his work on social media this week, Scobie accused British publications of “misquoting” and reaching “new levels of desperation”.
He said: “It is hardly surprising that the twisting of facts and misquoting going on right now has reached new levels of desperation. Looking forward to people being able to read the book for themselves on Tuesday – and hearing my actual voice set some nonsense straight in interviews this week.”
GB News has not seen an advanced copy of Endgame.

In a separate post on X (formerly Twitter), Scobie said: “Whether you like my work or loathe it, all I ask is that if you are reading coverage about what’s supposedly inside Endgame, please also read the book itself.
“Incorrect and bad translations, snippets without context, leaks etc. do not tell the full or accurate story.”
Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace have declined to comment.
A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has been contacted for comment.
