King Charles continued his royal duties on Thursday after snubbing a meeting with Prince Harry.

The monarch said that he was glad to be “out of my cage” during his visit to the Gibraltar Barracks in Minley.

Yesterday, the King attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace while his son, Prince Harry took part in an Invictus Games service less than three miles away, but the pair did not meet.

Today marked Charles’ first military engagement since the King returned to royal duties following his cancer announcement.

On Wednesday, the King was joined by Queen Camilla, Prince Edward, the Duchess of Edinburgh and Princess Anne at the palace.

The party clashed with the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games service at St. Paul’s Cathedral where Prince Harry performed a reading.

Before entering the cathedral on Wednesday, the prince was only met by his aunt and uncle on his mother’s side.

Princess Diana’s siblings, Charles Spencer and Lady Jane Fellowes greeted Harry with a hug at the anniversary event.

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for Prince Harry confirmed that the prince would not be meeting with his father during his visit to the UK.

The spokesperson said: “In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not the Duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full programme.

“The Duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”

The prince is expected to be in the UK for only a few days before flying to Nigeria to undertake an unofficial royal tour with Meghan Markle.
