The King and Queen’s wedding anniversary will be “tinged with sadness” for a heartbreaking reason.

Charles and Camilla are marking a milestone next week as they celebrate their 19th wedding anniversary on April 9.

However, according to a royal source, it will be bittersweet for Charles as it also marks three years since his father, Prince Philip, died.

Royal commentator, Richard Fitzwilliams, said: “April 9th is also the date of Prince Philip’s death so it will be tinged with sadness.”

Philip passed away on April 9, 2021, at the age of 99 as the longest-serving royal consort in world history.

Charles’s “dear papa,” as he referred to him, was married to the late Queen Elizabeth for 73 years.

Fitzwilliams said that King Charles and Queen Camilla are likely to celebrate “privately” but “they may well release a photograph.”

The royal couple married in 2005; however, they met 35 years earlier at a polo match.

Charles and Camilla made their first public appearance as a couple in January 1999.

As the King and Queen were previously divorced, they elected for a civil marriage ceremony followed by a blessing at Windsor Castle.

Fitzwiliams commented on the couple’s relationship stating: “Queen Camilla is the King’s rock, they are perfectly suited for each other with the same interests, friends and sense of humour.

“The fact that he is suffering from a serious illness will bind them ever closer as she provides the pivotal emotional support he needs at this time.”

This anniversary will also be different to previous years as the King undergoes treatment for cancer.

The Queen has had to step up in place of the King for many public engagements since his cancer was announced in February.

Fitzwilliams continued: “Despite a surprise and highly successful brief walkabout after the Easter Sunday service at Windsor, he is not able to undertake royal engagements and the Queen is deputising for him.

“With Catherine also undergoing preventative chemotherapy, it is a difficult and stressful time for the Royal Family.”

Princess Kate also announced her cancer diagnosis through a video message in March where she talked about the “huge shock” for her and her family.

Last year, Camilla showed off her sense of humour by responding to a fan who wished the couple a happy anniversary.

The Queen responded to a fan’s letter saying: “Thank you for your thoughtful message for our 18th Wedding Anniversary. It is hard to believe how quickly time has flown by…!”

Underneath the typed message there was a handwritten signature signed “Camilla R.”
