Princess Kate’s recovery was “harder than we thought”, according to a royal insider, as the Princess of Wales announced she has entered a new chapter in her cancer journey.
Kate, 43, announced her relief at being in remission from cancer after her first solo engagement since 2023, visiting the Royal Marsden Hospital in London where she underwent her chemotherapy treatments.
The insider told People: “She has drawn a line under the last year, and she can move forward.
“The word remission is such a positive one to use, and it just feels a veil has been lifted on their life of the last year.”

In her statement on January 14, the Princess acknowledged the challenges of adjusting to her “new normal” while remaining focused on recovery.
A source close to the royal household revealed: “It has been a tough journey — harder than we perhaps thought.”
The Princess of Wales has said that she is focusing on family as she adapts to life after treatment, with Prince William and their three children at the centre of her priorities.
The royal insider added: “For the princess, family — her husband and children — are more important than anything else.”
Kate plans to maintain a similar pace of royal engagements as she did in late 2024 as she makes a gradual return to duties.
The royal household source noted: “Serious illness like cancer does change you.
“She has a young family, and it makes you rethink everything—your purpose and what you want to do with your life.”
Kate’s visit to The Royal Marsden showcased her personal connection with patients, particularly during her conversation with Katherine Field, who was undergoing chemotherapy.
The two women discussed shared experiences, including their chemotherapy ports and treatment strategies.
Field told People: “It was just like talking to a friend about a really horrible time in life.”
“She is very special—to be able to connect with people so quickly and so empathetically.”
Kate and Prince William have been confirmed as joint patrons of the hospital, continuing Princess Diana’s legacy who served as president from 1989.
