The Princess of Wales is “forging her own path” as she celebrated her 44th birthday, according to a royal commentator.

The princess marked her birthday by releasing the final part of her Mother Nature project, “Winter”, which focuses on the enduring bond between humanity and the natural world.

The series explores nature’s remarkable ability to inspire, heal and nurture growth across mind, body and spirit.

Throughout the Mother Nature project, the princess has sought to capture both the beauty and intricacy of human experience, drawing parallels with lessons found in the natural environment.

Royal correspondent Richard Fitzwilliams spoke to The People’s Channel and revealed: “She is forging her own path, I thought it was charming. It’s one of the series. So you’ve got all the seasons. I mean, this is the way she is emphasising the mission, she’s talking about the importance, which has been very considerable to her, of communing with nature.

“And also this links with her feeling that the outdoors is so important. And of course, she’s doing so much work on the early years of childhood, and there’s little doubt there that there’ll be another theme that, for example, instead of just being on your mobile phones indoors, you might benefit perhaps from scouts or outdoor activities. It’s linked to something that she’s been pushing for quite some time.”

The future queen made her return to public events in 2025, after announcing she was in remission early in the year.

Kate has gradually increased her engagements over the past year, upping her number of visits from 13 in 2024 to 68 across 2025.

She missed Royal Ascot as she balanced her workload in the wake of her cancer treatment.

The future queen did attend the VE Day commemorations, Trooping the Colour and the annual Order of the Garter service.

She also made a solo visit to a V&A storage facility in London and travelled to meet the bereaved families of the young girls killed in the Southport attack.

The Princess of Wales is yet to venture beyond Britain’s shores since her cancer diagnosis.

Mr Fitzwilliams continued to GB News: “There’s absolutely no question that William and Catherine have both made the decision to take on far fewer patronages than other senior members of the Royal Family used to, but to do much more for the ones that they actually are attached to.

“She made a surprise appearance with William at Charing Cross Hospital just before her birthday, and she is doing more engagements.”

Kate surprised NHS workers at Charing Cross Hospital after William initially planned to attend alone earlier this week.

The couple dropped in on staff for a tea break at the hospital to offer their support during the challenging winter months, which have seen record levels of flu cases.

Speaking to volunteer Maureen Gilmour, 86, who helps patients during their chemotherapy, the princess was told that “people sit there for hours”.

Kate responded: “I know”, before touching her husband on the arm, adding: “We know.”
