Princess Kate is “changing public perception for the better” as the royal prioritises her own health, a royal commentator has exclusively told GB News.

The Princess of Wales, 42, has only made one official appearance in 2024, when she attended Trooping the Colour in June alongside her children.

In January earlier this year, Kate experienced major abdominal surgery before discovering she had cancer.

She is now undergoing a course of preventative chemotherapy and stepped back from public life, although, Kate announced she would attend some engagements over the summer if doctors give her the green light.

Gareth Russell, a royal author and biographer of the Queen Mother, spoke exclusively to GB News to explain whether an upcoming appearance from Kate is important for public perceptions of the Royal Family.

He said: “Anytime the Princess of Wales makes a public appearance, it reminds people of how fluctuating and personal each patient’s journey with cancer is, and that’s a great thing for us all to be reminded of.

“The Princess of Wales has been very clear that there are good days and bad days.

“As she said herself she’s not out of the woods yet, but being able to attend occasional public events as she eases herself back into public life while also continuing to prioritise her health and her children, is a good thing for the public to see the individuality of each patient’s journey.

“It is also a good thing so that the public does not expect a return to one duty means a return permanently to them all.”

One engagement which Kate could likely attend is the Men’s Singles Final at Wimbledon next Sunday, July 14.

As patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, the Princess of Wales awards trophies to the runner-up and champion of the match every year.

Kate’s appearance at this year’s final has been placed into doubt due to the royal’s ongoing cancer treatment.

If Kate does not attend Wimbledon, it could be Prince William who steps up for the Princess of Wales.

However, if England reaches the final of the Euro 2024 Championship, the Prince of Wales could quite possibly choose to fly to Germany over attending Wimbledon.

This is because, as president of the FA, Prince William’s attendance at the final would be expected, should England pass through next week’s semi-finals.
