The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales has appointed the former boss of supermarket giant, Tesco, as a director.
Sir David John Lewis, who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2021, has joined the board of Trustees and is understood to be supporting Prince William and Catherine’s charity work.
He reportedly advised the UK Government on how to fix the food supply chain crisis during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.
The 59-year-old businessman has three decades of leadership experience, and could have impressed The Prince of Wales with his conservation credentials – Sir David remains a director of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF-UK).
The Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales supports global conservation efforts, emergency responders and mental health provision.
Prince William’s ‘Homewards’ initiative (aiming to demonstrate homelessness can be ended), and Catherine’s Centre for Early Childhood (raising awareness and supporting young children to benefit society long-term) also falls under the charity’s umbrella.
When The Prince’s environmental Earthshot Prize had its inaugural year in 2021, it too was part of the Royal Foundation, but has since become a separate organisation.
The Royal Foundation claims it “mobilises leaders, businesses and people” to “address society’s greatest challenges”.

It is understood the future King and Queen want their charity work to have a measurable, scalable and positive impact on society.
The Prince and Princess of Wales’ Royal Foundation began looking after the charity work of brothers Prince William and Prince Harry in 2009.
The Princess of Wales, then The Duchess of Cambridge, joined in 2011 before Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, made up the then ‘fab four’ in 2018.

When The Duke and Duchess of Sussex quit as working members of the Royal Family in 2020, the Royal Foundation remained with Prince William and Catherine.
Sir David, who ran Tesco from 2014 – 2020, was appointed director on 20 June, according to Companies House.
Kensington Palace declined to comment.
