Josh Allen calls Bills’ loss to Chiefs ‘surreal’ as quarterback loses for a third time to Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs: ‘on the bright side, we woke up this morning’

A dejected Josh Allen called the Bills’ loss to the Chiefs in the divisional round of the playoffs ‘surreal’ as the quarterback entered the offseason earlier than he would’ve hoped.

Allen and the Bills lost 27-24 at home after a late field goal miss from Tyler Bass, marking the third time that the Buffalo passer has lost to his friend and rival Patrick Mahomes in the postseason.

‘It’s surreal,’ he told reporters on Monday. ‘On the bright side, we woke up this morning, we’re all here.

‘Losing’s never fun. It’s a part of the game… It’s the reason you play this game, because you don’t want to feel this way. But when you do feel this way, it makes winning all that much  more special and this isn’t something we’re going to run from. It’s not something we’re going to hide from. We’ve gotta take it on the chin, continue to learn and get better.’

Individually, Allen had a strong game as he completed 26 of 39 passes for a touchdown while adding 72 yards and two scores on the ground.

But the Bills did not get the ball back after Bass missed a 44-yard field goal with 1:47 remaining, and Mahomes marched into the AFC Championship Game for the sixth straight season.

It was, remarkably, Mahomes’ first road playoff game and Allen was asked if the loss hurt even more given that it was played at home.

‘Here, there, it doesn’t matter,’ he replied. ‘Losing sucks. I don’t know what else to say.’

The Chiefs were unsurprisingly in much better spirits on Sunday night following the game.

‘Hey listen no dancing today,’ coach Andy Reid could be heard saying in a locker room video. ‘We got more to do. But you know what? We’re going to enjoy this one like a son of a buck.’

‘Proud of everybody. Defense, I’m proud of you for battling,’ Reid continued. ‘I’m proud of you man. That was a great offense you were battling all night, or day, whatever we are. Lets take a knee, but first, how about those Chiefs!’

Mahomes also added some words of his own.

‘Hey real quick. They asked for it, and they got what they asked for,’ the quarterback said. ‘But [Reid] said it. This s*** ain’t done. We come back next week ready to f***in’ go!’

The Chiefs will travel to Baltimore this weekend to play the Ravens in the AFC Championship.
