The centres also educates people outside the UK in Malawi in Africa.

Many students told the they wanted to “share stories people otherwise would not hear” and for news centres to “spread far beyond the UK”.

Priory Academy, also in Weston, sent students from its news centre to the anniversary event on Monday.

Sarah O’Gorman, an English teacher at the school, said: “I think students are keen to champion things like mental health and disability related news and anything that relates with young people.”

The students interviewed the Speaker of the House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle as part of their day out.
