Jeremy Clarkson admitted “something special” was happening on Sunday’s instalment of ITV’s Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

The former Top Gear star was in shock as he witnessed one player tantalisingly close to bagging the £1million cashprize, and they pulled of a show first.

The 64-year-old was back on screens over the weekend helping hopefuls to get the chance to win the staggering cash prize on the classic show.

Player Kevin beat off five other contestants to be in with the chance to win the jackpot, and managed to pull of an amazing performance.

Clarkson was stunned as Kevin managed to reach the £250,000 mark without using a single lifeline or safety net.

The Grand Tour star commented: “Absolutely tremendous. I don’t think I’ve ever asked this before… Do you want to set your safety net at £125,000?”

As Clarkson laughed the unlikely scenario, Kevin replied: “I will set it at that.”

“You will set it at that? And all lifelines left. This is… wow. My fingers are crossed here. This is something special,” Clarkson remarked.

Fans watching at home were on the edge of their seats, convinced Kevin would be able to get to £1million.

Unfortunately, he became stumped by a question at the £500,000 mark, and had used up all his lifelines.

He was asked: “According to their official measurements, which of these paintings is the smallest?” with the possible answers being The Starry Night, Mona Lisa, Girl With a Pearl Earring or American Gothic.

Kevin sensibly opted to take the money rather than risking it all, meaning he left with a quarter of a million pounds.

Viewers were delighted by the achievement, with one writing on X: “He won £250k. I thought he might go all the way for a moment. #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire.”

“Well played Kevin #whowantstobeamillionaire,” another posted.
