Jeremy Clarkson admits ‘I need to do something’ in worrying health update days after sharing dementia fears

Jeremy Clarkson has admitted he needs to make a major change to his lifestyle in order to reduce his risk of illness.

Last week,

Clarkson revealed he was getting hearing aids to cut his risks of dementia

and loss of hearing, and now the Clarkson’s Farm star has opened up about his fears of diabetes.

The former Top Gear star,

who shared an “important announcement” about Clarkson’s Farm’s future last week

, has revealed that to lower his risk of developing diabetes, he’s been told to walk 10,000 steps a day.

However, he’s admitted that thanks to his hectic work schedule, that’s a near-impossible feat.

And the prospect of walking 10,000 steps is also made more daunting by Clarkson’s own abilities.

Writing in his Sunday Times column, Clarkson admitted that when goes to a football match with his son, he struggles to keep up with the pace people walk at.

As a result, Clarkson said: “Which means that for the first half of the match I can’t concentrate on the football because I’m too busy coughing up my spleen and trying to get my breath back.”

Delving into why he therefore wants to make a change, Clarkson penned: “I need to do something about this, however…

“A report out last week said that if I increase my typical walking speed from 0.1mph to 0.7mph I’d reduce the chance of catching type 2 diabetes by nine per cent.

“If I could get up to four mph, then there’d be a 39 per cent lower risk.”

But Clarkson went on to reveal that the sound of a four mph walk was a much more appealing prospect on paper than it was in practice.

He also took aim at the ever-changing landscape of the wellbeing market, hitting out: “One minute, tomatoes give you cancer and the next they protect your brain, heart and gut.

“Then there’s red meat. On a Tuesday it’s carcinogenic, and then the next morning it’s a vital source of iron, protein and vitamin B. How are we supposed to keep up with all of this?”

With Clarkson wanting to be more active, he’ll undoubtedly be buoyed by the fact he, Kaleb Cooper and the rest of the “family” at Diddly Squat will have to keep things running for another series.
