Jack Whitehall blasted as ‘rich daddy’s boy’ by furious Brits singer over derogatory ‘working-class’ jibes: ‘Nepo baby!’

Becky Hill has launched a scathing attack on comedian Jack Whitehall after he referred to her as “Wetherspoons Whitney” at this month’s Brit Awards.

The singer took to Instagram to call out the presenter as a “privately educated nepo baby”, highlighting the stark class divide in Britain’s music industry.

The remarks came after Whitehall’s comments during the prestigious ceremony, where he said during one of his speeches: “It’s an eclectic mix of nominees this year.

“From the soaring vocals of the Wetherspoons Whitney Becky Hill to the atmospheric house of top jaw with decks, Fred Again.”

Hill’s criticism has ignited a conversation about privilege and opportunity in the entertainment world.

She responded forcefully on Instagram, writing: “Imagine being called a ‘Wetherspoons Whitney’ by some privately educated nepo baby who has a TV show with daddy the showbiz agent on national TV.”

The singer took offence to Jack’s comments about her at the Brits

The 31-year-old singer was clearly irked by the comedian’s remarks and began to explain her background in stark contrast to Whitehall’s privileged upbringing.

“My parents worked so hard to provide a middle-class life for me, even though they couldn’t afford it, no one gave me a leg up, I wasn’t near London so I couldn’t go to the BRIT School,” she wrote.

Whitehall attended the £52,000-a-year Dragon School in Oxford.

Hill suggested that Whitehall’s perception of her accent revealed his own privilege, adding: “If you associate a Midlands accent with a Wetherspoons, that says more about the silver spoon in your mouth, jolly ol’ boy.”

The comedian has yet to address the comments made by Becky

In her Instagram post, Hill shared a screenshot highlighting the privileged backgrounds of other Brit attendees.

The post noted that Charli XCX, who won five awards that night, attended Bishop’s Stortford College, whilst producer A.G. Cook went to King Alfred’s School.

In a follow-up post, Hill shared a selfie with a defiant message: “Me and my working class attitude off to WORK today. Remember not to be out of touch today, kids, even if your daddy is rich. Shout out Jack Whitehall for the fuel to my fire.”

The singer also revealed that Whitehall’s jokes weren’t even his own and shared a screenshot of the Brit Awards credits showing seven writers were responsible for penning the comedian’s script.

This revelation adds another layer to Hill’s criticism of the presenter’s privileged position – with Whitehall having yet to respond to her criticism.

Hill was nominated for the Brit Award for Best Dance Act, a category she has won twice previously.

The singer didn’t hold back airing her comments

Last month, it was announced that the singer would be performing at the Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone in July.

“I can’t wait to be back at Silverstone to headline the final night at the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. It’s going to be a huge weekend of high-energy action on the track and on the stage!”
