With a growing number of UK travellers seeking off-the-beaten-path destinations, Italy’s Emilia Romagna region offers a serene alternative to tourist-heavy Tuscany.

Recent data shows 58 per cent of British holidaymakers now prioritise lesser-known travel spots over popular tourist destinations.

Luxury travel specialist Citalia recently highlighted the region as one of the top

Known as the “heart of Italian food,” Emilia Romagna is a verdant region stretching from the Apennine mountains to the Po river.

The area produces many of Italy’s most celebrated ingredients, including Modena’s balsamic vinegar, Prosciutto, and Parmesan cheese.

Visitors can witness fresh pasta being made and sample local burrata whilst exploring the historic streets.

Bologna, the region’s capital, stands as one of Italy’s most elegant cities, boasting medieval architecture and the world’s oldest university.

The city’s distinctive porticoes and medieval towers frame spirited markets and bustling arcades.

As evening falls, Bologna maintains its vibrant atmosphere, with visitors enjoying local tortelli al tartufo nero in the shadow of the famous Due Torri.

The region’s efficient rail network connects visitors to charming nearby cities like Parma, known for its Romanesque cathedral and medieval splendour.

Modena captivates with its Ferrari heritage, balsamic vinegar production, and vibrant operatic tradition at the Municipal theatre.

Ravenna stands out for its extraordinary Byzantine mosaics, boasting an impressive eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Emilia-Romagna Coast has been a premier Italian seaside destination since the 1960s, stretching along the Adriatic sea.

Milano Marittima provides a more intimate coastal experience, featuring golden beaches and sophisticated shopping alongside family-friendly bagni.

Heather Green, Head of Product at Citalia, said: “We are delighted to extend our portfolio to the captivating region of Emilia Romagna.

“This beautiful region is a haven for foodies, cultural aficionados, and sun catchers alike.”
