The world’s first Muslim-friendly cruise has launched – where guests can enjoy halal food, alcohol-free beverages and dedicated prayer rooms onboard a luxury liner.

The M/V Piano Land, developed in partnership with Astro Ocean Cruise and Hwajing Travel & Tours, is the first cruise to market itself as Muslim-friendly, with the hopes of establishing a new era of travel for billions across the globe.

Departing from Port Klang in Malaysia on November 29, the ship will sail for three days on the western coast through Penang and Langkawi, before returning to its starting point.

Boasting ten decks and 880 cabins, the ship can accommodate 1,760 passengers, who are treated to a range of bespoke onboard experiences and facilities with Islamic hospitality at its heart.

Guests can indulge in 100 per cent halal cuisine crafted by an expert culinary team, – including the ship’s signature Hong Kong-style roasted duck – along with dining experiences such as halal afternoon tea.

Designed specifically for Muslim travellers, only non-alcoholic beverages, such as mocktails, fresh juices and hot drinks, will be served in all of its onboard venues.

Religious facilities are a key element of the ship’s design, featuring dedicated prayer rooms with gender-segregated spaces and real-time guidance on prayer times and direction throughout the journey.

The ship offers a family-friendly itinerary, catering to families, fitness enthusiasts and culture seekers alike.

A range of kids’ clubs and child-friendly programs will keep younger passengers entertained, while the onboard spa and wellness centre allows adult guests to kick back and relax.

Kenny Cheong, managing director of Hwajing Travel and Tour, told Travel Weekly Asia: ‘With Piano Land, we’re showing that luxury cruising can align seamlessly with halal values, inclusive hospitality and cultural respect.

‘It’s a proud reflection of Malaysia’s readiness to welcome travellers of all backgrounds with warmth and authenticity.’

Officially unveiled at the MATTA Muslim Friendly Travel Fair earlier this month, the ship signifies Malaysia’s push for Muslim-friendly travel – a fast-growing tourism segment projected to exceed $300 billion by 2030.
