Suella Braverman has told voters that the Conservatives have “let down” Britain, after securing her seat in the constituency of Fareham and Waterlooville.
The former Home Secretary has held her seat after winning 36,459 votes, with Labour candidate Gemma Furnivall garnering just 10,374.
Braverman secured victory in the newly created constituency in Hampshire, after changes to parliamentary boundaries.
Speaking to the crowd in her winner’s speech, Braverman thanked the people of Fareham and Waterlooville for “placing their trust” as their “voice in parliament”.

Taking aim at the Conservatives, Braverman then used the opportunity to highlight how “sorry” she was that the “party did not listen” to the country.
Braverman declared: “I want to briefly address the result in the rest of the country. And there is only one thing that I can say. Sorry.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry that my party didn’t listen to you. The Conservative Party has let you down.
“You, the great British people, voted for us over 14 years and we did not keep our promises.”
In a further attack on the Tories and Rishi Sunak, Braverman claimed that the party “acts as if we are entitled to your vote”, regardless of “what we did and didn’t do”.

The ex-Home Secretary fumed: “We’ve acted as if we’re entitled to your vote, regardless of what we did, regardless of what we didn’t do. Despite promising time after time that we would do those things.
“And we need to learn our lesson. Because if we don’t, as bad as tonight has been for my party, we’ll have many worse nights to come.”
Addressing the loss of over 100 seats so far in the election, Braverman told her constituency that the country “deserves better” than the Tories.
She continued: “I will do everything in my power to rebuild trust. We need to listen to you, and you have spoken to us very clearly.”

Thanking her family in her speech, Braverman paid tribute to the “steadfast love” of her husband and children throughout her campaign trail.
Braverman gushed: “I must thank my family – my husband, my children for your steadfast love, support and friendship.
“My mum, my dad, and my wider family for your constant advice and encouragement. I couldn’t do this job without you all.”
