‘I’m a celebrity makeup artist and my addictive concealer hack is the best trick I could teach you for a flawless finish’

Concealer is a product almost every makeup-wearer has in their cosmetics bag – although not everyone knows the most effective application techniques.

A celebrity makeup artist took to TikTok to share how to apply concealer for a “flawless finish”. She advised applying the product to your hand and using a brush to transfer it to your face.

Katie Jane Hughes (@katiejanehughes on TikTok) said: “This is the best trick I could ever teach you. All you’re going to need is a full-coverage concealer and a concealer brush – also known as an eyeshadow brush.

“This is an additive trick – you won’t be able to stop doing it when you try it. And it will give your skin the most flawless finish, but all the while you won’t look like you’ve got any makeup on.”

For the technique to work its magic in the morning, the expert advised women to wash their faces with a cloth before going to bed. “That just does a little bit of conditioning and exfoliating,” she said.

Katie explained that she applies a swathe of concealer to the back of her hand, then “smooshes” her brush into the product.

“And when the concealer’s pretty much just a patch on the back of your hand,” she said, “it is ready”.

“You’re going to take that brush and gently sweep it anywhere that you want coverage. You’re going to be very gentle with your pressure.”

Demonstrating the technique, she applied the product to the inner corners of her eyes, above her brows “to border it a little bit”, the outer corner of the eyes for some “lift”, and underneath her contour – as well as any red areas.

For more coverage, you can apply a little bit more concealer to your hand and start the process again.

Katie explained that putting concealer straight onto your face takes longer because more blending is required. However, it does also make for a more full-coverage look.

The expert said that there’s no right or wrong when it comes to application methods – it simply depends on how much time you have and how full-coverage you want your base to be.

Providing another top tip, Katie recommended always going for a small concealer brush. This enables you to “control” where the product goes.

While you may have your makeup routine down to a tee, getting older may mean your techniques require a revamp.

Women over 40 were told the pre-makeup step they should never skip – or risk looking “crusty”.

For those in or approaching the next decade, one expert named the product that can make a “huge difference” to women over 50.
