While genetics play a crucial role in the condition of hair, environmental factors can also affect shine and thickness.

Jessica Lee, who goes by the DavisStandard on TikTok, showed her viewers how big a difference simple habits can make.

She recently explained that biotin supplements, using a leave-in conditioner between washes, and limiting the use of shampoo help keep her hair healthy, thick and voluminous.

Biotin has emerged as a key supplement in hair care with experts highlighting its proven safety and effectiveness in treating hair disorders.

Cleveland Clinic dermatologist Wilma Bergfeld MD endorses the vitamin’s benefits, stating: “We find biotin to be very helpful for hair disorders.”

The expert emphasised its exceptional safety profile, noting that “oral biotin is exceedingly safe”.

Dr Bergfeld further explained that biotin’s benefits extend beyond just hair health.

“[It] helps maintain hair growth and help with inflammation,” she noted. “The hair follicle, the skin and the nails all benefit.”

The vitamin’s role in maintaining hair health has been well-documented, with research supporting its importance in preventing hair loss rather than simply promoting growth.

It helps in producing keratin, the essential protein responsible for forming hair, skin and nails, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Research published in the International Journal of Trichology in 2016 demonstrated that insufficient biotin levels in the body can trigger hair loss.

This scientific backing has made biotin a trusted supplement for those seeking to maintain healthy hair follicles and prevent hair loss.

But a key distinction exists in understanding biotin’s role in hair health, according to the Cleveland Clinic, as its role in reversing hair loss has not been proven.

“I’m religious about taking biotin,” noted Jessica. “Biotin is really good for nails and hair growth, and that’s what I take daily.”

She continued: “It’s really important not to overwash your hair, and when I do wash my hair I like to use the Opalex N.4 Bond maintenance shampoo.

“Number three is actually love using leave-in conditioner in between washes to just nourish my hair.

“I noticed that putting on leave-in conditioner actually makes my hair much shinier and healthier. That’s how I keep my hair thick healthy and shiny.”

Leave-in conditioners have been shown to add shine to hair by smoothing the surface cuticle layer of hair.
