Bolton boss Ian Evatt says they have a duty to remain focused on their FA Cup replay against Luton Town after Saturday’s game against Cheltenham was abandoned when a supporter fell ill.
The club will pay tribute to Purslow by holding a minute’s silence and wearing black armbands during Tuesday’s tie.
“He’s part of the Bolton family and we’re all very sorry and sad,” Evatt told Radio Manchester.
“I think we have a responsibility. That [the replay] has to be our focus. I’m sure Iain would want it to be that way.
“He was an avid Bolton fan who was proud of his team and football club. We want to do all we can to make him and his family proud.
“That involves us winning football matches and being focused to do so.”
Bolton will now face Cheltenham in a rearranged League One fixture on Tuesday, 23 January, after the Robins, in conjunction with Burton Albion, agreed to push back their scheduled meeting which had been due to take place the same night.
Wanderers host Luton in their replay having held the Premier League side to a goalless draw at Kenilworth Road, and are aiming to reach the FA Cup fourth round for the first time since 2019.
“We know exactly what we’re going to face just like [Luton boss] Rob [Edwards] knows exactly what he’s going to face. Both teams have very few secrets and it’s who executes best on the night,” Evatt added.
“They’re a Premier League team and it’s a huge task and challenge for us but one we’re looking forward to.”
