Bolton manager Ian Evatt has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association for his behaviour after Wanderers’ League One game with Shrewsbury.
The 44-year-old Bolton boss was sent off after the final whistle of the 2-2 draw in League One on Saturday.
Evatt was shown a red card by referee Declan Bourne after appearing to push his head towards visiting captain Morgan Feeney.
The FA has alleged his conduct was “improper and/or violent” and he has until Thursday (10 October) to respond.
Prior to being charged, Evatt admitted to Radio Manchester that he “went too far”.
“I’m disappointed and I’m not happy with how things turned out,” he said.
“There wasn’t an issue with the referee at all, we were discussing the timing situation.
“There was context to my actions. Their player grabbed me and was saying some not nice things and I reacted in a way I shouldn’t have done.
“Whether it was emotion, frustration, passion… whatever you want to call it, it probably went too far. I apologise and I’ll learn from it.”
