A mum has revealed how she lost 43kg and completely transformed her body after making a few small lifestyle changes anyone can do.
Tanya Gillman, from Warnambool in Victoria, first started to gain weight after a difficult pregnancy and traumatic birth left her bed-bound for months – and her weight skyrocketed to 108kg at her heaviest.
The 42-year-old needed five surgeries to recover from giving birth and was unable to walk or move around her house at all in the interim.
Tanya spent her time reflecting on her health and realising that if she wanted a better life for herself and her family, she would have to make healthier choices.
She started small, she first began to go on walks around her block in the morning and aimed to do some form of exercise every single day.
Since starting on her health journey in November 2021, Tanya has exercised every day and is aiming to complete a 1,000-day streak in July 2024.

‘I have continued to exercise every single day because it has given me the mental resilience to back myself and to focus on me no matter what hurdle l am jumping over – and honestly there have been so many,’ she told FEMAIL.
‘I see this as a journey, not a destination, where each day l have continued to learn more about both my mind and body.’
Tanya begun tracking her food intake and writing down everything she cooked and bought so that she could analyse what needed to change.
She revealed that cooking and meal-prepping healthier food helped her change her family’s diet as well.
Being a busy working mum, Tanya previously opted for meals that were easy to throw together and wasn’t too concerned about protein intake or nutrition.
But she now realises the importance of eating healthy and regular exercise, and how something as simple as replace takeout meals with healthy alternatives can push you towards a better lifestyle.
Tanya found that setting achievable goals helped her stay motivated
The mum revealed that the Healthy Mummy mobile app was a constant companion on her fitness journey.
She used it for new exercises, to track down recipes based on what she had in her pantry, and to calculate her water intake.
‘The hardest job sometimes as a mum is cooking to suit everyone’s needs – but this program has been ideal for my kids to try healthy alternatives,’ she said.
Tanya found that setting achievable goals helped her stay motivated.
‘I started with small goals of doing 61 days of exercise but it felt great so l just kept going some 800 days later,’ she said.
‘I have milestones along the way where l reward myself to keep the motivation going.
‘It has been my go-to as a way of coping and putting myself first both physically and mentally. Achieving my goals has given me a belief that absolutely anything is possible you just need to back yourself.’
Tanya’s favourite exercises to do are boxing and kickboxing for high-intensity training
Tanya’s favourite exercises to do are boxing and kickboxing for high-intensity training – and she uses the Healthy Mummy app for instruction videos.
‘I also love walking as it’s such a great way to involve my children and be a role model who shows them how important it is to look after yourself.
‘I used to think that my life was too busy to exercise, but l flipped that thinking around to prioritise it.
‘I worked out when l had spots in the day to fit it in, so now l wake up earlier to start my day off right.
‘I usually start my day off at 5am as l travel a lot with work and running around after my children. Taking care of my health has changed my whole life and way of thinking.
‘Honestly, it starts with your mindset, consistency and belief in yourself. It’s about acknowledging the negative but turning it around and making it a positive.’
