Motorists were stunned to see “huge white bubbles” floating down the road, residents said.
The Environment Agency (EA) confirmed it was investigating why bubbles had emerged from the nearby River Tame in Dukinfield, Greater Manchester, on Monday morning.
“The road was chaos with people stopping to look or having to slow down to drive through it,” added local resident Sam Pedder.
“People were picking their dogs up and carrying them past it.”
