Many people who want to try and start losing weight tend to give up due to a lack of motivation after not hitting unrealistic targets.
Amongst many lifestyle changes people need to adopt, setting clear goals and increasing their daily activity are just two ways people can start a weight loss journey.
Personal trainer and nutrition, mindset coach, Chloe Thomas has eight years of experience in helping people lose weight.
She suggested the best way people can start is bringing in some simple habits such as drinking more water, eating regular meals and moving more.

Chloe said it is important to look beyond just losing weight and recognise the health benefits that come with slimming down.
She said: “I think it’s important to also get clear on your why and understand why you want to lose weight beyond just how you look, for example, have more energy and more confidence or do it for your health. I recommend tracking your habits so that you can become aware of where you are now.”
The expert pushed people away from focusing on nutrition to begin with and just eating whole foods.
She explained: “I personally would focus on your nutrition first. So make sure that you’re eating whole foods, nutrient-dense foods like lean proteins, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats. It is important to reduce your processed foods and sugar intake too.”
Retaining consistency is one of the biggest killers of weight loss goals as people often become disillusioned when they are not seeing the progress they are hoping for.
To combat this, Chloe said: “It is important to make sure you embrace not being perfect so if you slip up or have a bad week all day, just move on. Consistency over time is what matters to be successful.
“It is important to prepare for things that may get in the way because life does happen! So just have backup plans for busy days or when you are sick or when life becomes stressful.”
She said that people should not be so harsh on themselves and realise it is a long-term goal for people to try and achieve.

Chloe said: “Make sure to celebrate your milestones and your wins so maybe reward yourself when you hit small goals.”
Targets people could set are working out on certain days or hitting a number of steps walked in a day.
The expert advised: “Make sure that you track your progress so use things like photos, measurements, weight, energy levels and your mood. Don’t just focus on your weight!
“Set realistic expectations so you don’t set yourself up for failure.”
