A trip to the salon can work wonders if you’re looking to up your hair game, but there are also things you can do at home to improve your locks.

According to a hairstylist, one of the secrets to a magnificent mane is taking care of your ends using oil.

She said: “I’m a hairstylist and these are all the secrets to upping your hair game.”

According to the expert, neglecting to cut your hair – even when you want to grow it long – is a recipe for a “dead-end” disaster.

Explaining why regular trims are essential, Kaitlyn said: “Those see-through ends are not giving you length.

“If you cut it, your hair will actually look fuller – they’re not doing anything for you other than causing your hair to break off even more.”

In addition to regular trims, the hair guru advised utilising hair oil to improve the ends of the hair.

She stated: “If you want to prevent split ends, oil your ends every single night. That’s how they’re going to stay moisturised, hydrated, they’re not going to get brittle and they’re not going to break off.”

The hair experts at L’Oréal Paris confirmed that hair oil can be a helpful tool in achieving a beautiful barnet.

They said: “Applying hair oil on a regular basis can help prevent hair breakage. As well as preventing split ends, the right hair oil can also provide radiant shine, enhance hair colour and detangle.”

As for how to use the product for maximum results, the experts explained: “There are different ways you can use a hair oil.

“On wet hair, you can lock in precious moisture by applying a few drops along the lengths and ends, making sure you distribute evenly, before drying.

“On already-dry hair, hair oil can help smooth down any frizz or flyaways, and is particularly good for adding shine to curls and waves.”

While Kaitlyn recommended hair oiling every night, the experts at L’Oréal Paris advised that the frequency of application should “depend on your hair type and needs”.

Some may apply a few drops when washing their hair, while others may only use it when their hair is feeling dry.

Coconut oil, argan oil and jojoba oil are just some of the oils that can benefit the hair, although it’s always advisable to consult a hairstylist before using a new product.

A professional will be able to provide a proper insight into the right oil for your hair needs, plus how much to use.
