How to get glass-like hair: Hair expert names ‘single most important’ habit for glass-like hair

Achieving glass-like hair is a common desire, but many struggle to achieve the results they want without spending a fortune on treatments.

Fortunately, the most accessible methods lead to the longest-lasting results, according to professionals.

For moisturised hair, the best solutions include using nourishing hair masks, applying leave-in conditions, and opting for shine-enhancing serums.

Resident hair expert at Beauty Club London, Moe Harb, said: “The single most important habit for glass-like hair is consistently deep conditioning and using heat protection.

Using a moisturising treatment will enhance hair shine

“Glass hair is all about hair looking sleek, smooth and ultra-shiny, which requires regular moisture infusion and protection of your hair from heat damage.

“Always use a deep conditions treatment at least once a week and apply a quality heat protectant every time you use any heat tools.”

Additional lifestyle factors that promote better hair health, like taking adequate D3 and vitamin B12, can slow down other changes like greying.

“Regular scalp massages can boost blood circulation, which nourishes hair follicles and may help slow down greying,” explained Moe.

“While genetics play a major role in when hair starts to turn grey, you can delay hair greying by maintaining a healthy scalp and hair routine.

“Using shampoos and treatments rich in antioxidants and essential vitamins, like biotin, keep hair healthy and preserve pigment.”

It should be noted that for the best shine, it’s important to keep heat styling down to a minimum, using heat-protectant products where possible.

“It’s important to minimise heat styling and chemical treatments, as they can weaken the hair and contribute to premature greying,” explained Moe.

“I also always recommend using sun protection on the hair as UV rays can damage hair pigment, so wearing hats or using UV-protecting products can help.”

For those seeking a more natural approach, simple home remedies like cold water rinses or apple cider vinegar treatments can enhance shine without the need for expensive products.

Cold water rinses enhance shine by making the cuticles of hair strands lie flatter, so they reflect more light.

Water around 38°C is generally deemed warm enough to remove filth while protecting the internal protein structure of hair strands.

Anything hotter risks stripping the scalp of its sebum, which is crucial for coating and moisturising.

Minimising how often you shampoo your hair can also benefit the integral structure of your tresses, so try limiting washes to twice a week.
