Horror bodyworn footage has shown the moment an officer detained a man armed with a kitchen knife on a street in Oldham.
On October 29 last year, response officer Antony Spence was the first on the scene in the Hollins area to reports of an armed robbery taking place where a man was holding a knife.
The suspect, who had entering a nearby shop demanding cigarettes, then made off on foot. Police were called to search the area and later found the man ‘waving a large kitchen knife’.

He then began to approach PC Spence at the scene and refused with demands to drop the blade. Whilst calling for back-up, the officer then drew his taser and began to aim it at the suspect.
Greater Manchester Police said the suspect was ‘reckless and unpredictable’, and began knocking on doors of innocent local people.
A foot chase then commenced, before the officer used his baton to disarm the suspect and arrest him. The incident was captured on the officer’s bodyworn camera.
The 26-year-old man currently remains sectioned in hospital under the Mental Health Act on suspicion of robbery, threats to kill and possession of a bladed article.
And as a result of his actions, PC Antony Spence was recently awarded for his brave efforts at a Chief Constable’s Commendation event.
