The way you wear your hair can make a major difference to your appearance. But you don’t have to go all out with colour, cut and style to improve your look.
According to one hairdresser, simply changing your parting could work wonders. A hair guru explained why a centre parting isn’t always the most flattering option.
Silvia Reis (known as ellebangs on YouTube) is a professional hairstylist and colourist.
Speaking about the centre partings, the hair expert said that this is the “most streamlined” – “there’s nothing to it really”.

“It can be extremely flattering, it’s very sophisticated and very clean,” she said.
However, this particular parting style runs the risk of being too exposing and in turn, unflattering.
The hairstylist explained: “Now what the centre part does is it trains the eye to look at the middle, so if your features aren’t very symmetrical, it’s going to accentuate that.
“If one eyebrow’s a little higher than the other, you’re definitely going to see it. If your lips are a little bit crooked – like mine are – you’re definitely going to see it.
“It’s very symmetrical, it’s very clean, so the eye is much less forgiving.”
Now this doesn’t mean women who don’t have a totally symmetrical face should avoid this type of parting altogether – it’s simply something to be aware of.
The expert provided an alternative parting that women can use to distract from their face’s asymmetry whilst still maintaining volume.
Demonstrating a side parting which veers into the centre towards the back of the head, Silvia explained that this “tricks where the eye goes”.

She said: “You can’t really tell if my eyebrows are off or not – everything’s at an angle so everything’s meant to look crooked anyway. But by bringing the back towards the centre, you still have an evenness of hair.”
She explained that this is an alternative to an “extreme side part”, where there’s a lot more hair on one side than the other, creating a “lopsided” look.
There are plenty of ways women can improve their appearance by revamping their hairdo.
A model revealed that the secret to “full, healthy hair” is avoiding a damaging technique that makes it dry. Ladies may also be able to boost their locks with one ingredient that “works wonders” when applied for around 30 minutes.
