Celebrity MasterChef saw three more contestants getting through to the quarterfinal on Thursday night, but things didn’t go smoothly for all the hopeful chefs.

The latest episode saw comedian Eshaan Akbar, actress Danielle Harold, actress Rochenda Sandall and athlete and Gladiator Harry Aikines-Aryeetey showcasing their culinary skills for judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode.

The judges explained the contestants would be taking part in The Pairs Challenge, with Wallace, 59, adding: “It is all about teamwork and communication.”

“We’re going to split you into two teams,” Torode, 59, added, continuing: “The Red team – Eshaan, Danielle. The Blue team, Rochenda and Harry.

“Each team is going to be asked to cook for us a dish, and we want two portions of that dish. Those two portions need to be identical.

“That means they’ve got to look the same and they’ve got to taste the same. The twist here is that only one person in each team will have the recipe.

“That means the only way for you to succeed is by teamwork and communication.”

Sandall and Aikines-Aryeetey soon came up against it during the cooking of their dish, with Sandall tasked with guiding her teammate as they cooked curried lamb chops, a vegetable samosa, lentil dhal and a mint yoghurt.

“Chuck all the ingredients in!” Sandall could be heard instructing at one point as time was running out for the pair.

“Get it on and then get your samosas folded,” Torode demanded as he observed the duo cooking. Speaking to cameras, Wallace pointed out: “They still haven’t rolled the samosas, I know Rochenda doesn’t know how to fold them.

“They’re leaving the thing that’s the problem but no, no, no – the thing that’s the problem, we need to tackle straight away – in fact, now!”

When they’d finally perfected the samosas, Sandall instructed her co-star: “Bang that on the tray and let’s get it in the oven!”

“Harry has left his oven door open…” Torode noted as the athlete popped the samosas in the oven and walked away, leaving the door unclosed.

“Now, if there’s anyone big and strong enough to shut an oven door, it’s Harry!” Wallace quipped, adding: “Now it’s touch and go whether they’ll cook or not.”

However, the judges were pleasantly surprised when the pair presented their dishes, which looked very similar.

“I think they look brilliant, I’m really impressed,” Wallace remarked before Torode added: “You’ve done remarkably well here, they do look very similar.”

During Aikines-Aryeetey’s feedback, Wallace pointed out his blunder as he commented: “Slight overcooking on the lamb. Not enough cookery on your samosa – you didn’t shut the oven door.”

However, both managed to make it through to the quarterfinal, with Akbar given the boot when the judges had to eliminate one of the famous faces.
