The Siddiquis, stars of Gogglebox, made a rare reference to a family member who has never appeared on the show.

The Channel 4 programme returned for another entertaining episode on Friday night (September 20), with the usual TV critics sharing their thoughts on the week’s top shows. However, it was an unusual moment from the Siddiqui household that took some viewers by surprise.

The family, which includes father Sid and his sons Raza, Umar and Baasit, have been part of the show for an impressive eleven years. Yet, the mother of the family has never been featured on the show and is seldom mentioned.

In the most recent episode, the sons discussed who they believe is the favoured child in their mother’s eyes. During a conversation about gifting their mum, one of them revealed that she has a fondness for tupperware.

This led to one of the sons confessing that they recently bought tupperware for their mum, which delighted her. The laughter following this admission indicated their close bond with their mother, reports the Mirror.

Observing this endearing interaction, one viewer quickly commented: “That’s the first time I’ve ever heard them mention their Mum.”

The Siddiquis have been part of Gogglebox since its inception in 2013. They are currently the only cast members who have been on the show since its inception. In an interview with Radio Times last year, Sid, 78, remarked: “When it started, we didn’t think it would last even a year. It’s crept up on us as well.

“We’ve been doing this for 10 years. You know, you have to tell yourself to wake up and say it is weird!”

The youngest brother, Bassit, was the one who introduced his family to the show after a friend working on the programme recommended him. He explained: “We did a bit of an audition, where people came round with a camera and some flash cards images of Boris Johnson, Simon Cowell… and they said, ‘Right, just say the first thing that comes into your mind.’

“Whatever dynamic we had seemed to suit the show, because they asked us if we wanted to be part of it. And they’ve kept on asking us.”

However, it appears that their mum, Nasreen, prefers to stay out of the limelight.

Googlebox airs Fridays at 9pm on Channel 4.
