‘Germany is in deep recession!’ Michael Fabricant hits out at doom-mongers as he shuts down Starmer

Conservative MP Michael Fabricant has hit out at Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, following his speech in Bristol today.

Addressing a crowd of young engineers, Starmer pledged to forge a path for “an economy that rewards and respects people’s efforts”.

The Labour leader accused Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of “squatting” in Number 10, and urged for the Tory premier to set a date for this year’s general election.

Hitting out at the last 13 years of Conservative reign, Starmer said the UK is a “huge mess”, with “services on their knees” and an economy “that doesn’t work for working people, let alone when it stagnates like now”.

Setting out his intentions for the general election, Starmer fumed that Britain is “crying out for change”.

He added: “I promise a new purpose. To drag politics in this country back to service. Tilt our economy back towards the interests of working people. Reward their efforts fairly.

“Once again, I promise a new plan with new priorities. Five national missions that will sweep away the era of Tory division.”

Reacting to the speech, Conservative MP Michael Fabricant highlighted the state of the UK’s economy is doing better than claimed today by Starmer.

Fabricant told GB News: “Hearing him talking about all the sorts of things that the government has done, it’s completely untrue.

“He said the economy crashed under the Tories – we’re actually the fastest growing over the last 10 years anyway, the fastest growing economy in the G7.

“And while at the moment we’re flatlining, Germany is in very deep recession and the EU is in recession too.”

GB News presenter Tom Harwood stepped in to respond to Fabricant, stating: “You’re correct that the UK over the last 10 years was the fastest growing major European G7 economy. But the United States has grown faster.”

Fabricant hit back in response: “Not over the 10 years. You know the terrible thing about going on GB News is dealing with Tom Harwood. He is such a nerd!”

Fabricant then shared more of his thoughts on Keir Starmer’s first speech of 2024, adding: “If Keir Starmer actually starts talking again about the fact that his father was a toolmaker, that he is working class and that he used to prosecute people as Director of Public Prosecutions, I would scream and I’ll tell you what, I’d be screaming around the house all morning.

“I mean, there was absolutely nothing said in the speech of any substance at all. It was all about what he would do and the wicked Tories. There was no detail whatsoever, nor how he would pay for it.”
