Coronation Street fans have issued a demand for a return of a former star after she shared her reaction to news about Carla Connor and DS Lisa Swain’s growing connection.

Viewers of the ITV soap have desperately hoped for a romance between the two characters as they have been seen growing close in recent months, with scenes between the pair starting back in May.

And with both women letting their usual strong guard down and exploring their vulnerabilities, Lisa as a parent and widow, Carla as a divorcee and businesswoman, an indeterminable bond has been formed.

But in upcoming scenes, when a seemingly gentle touch feels electric, Carla, who split from husband Peter Barlow at the end of last year before his Weatherfield exit, wonders what she’s just experienced and if Lisa felt the same.

It comes as Carla finds herself in court on a charge of actual bodily harm (ABH) after Betsy told her mum she saw Calra knocking a young lad off a boke with her car door before driving off after he and his gang of mates were seen terrorising her friend Roy Cropper following his release from prison after wrongfully being charged with murder.

As Corrie announced the latest twist in the pair’s storyline, the social media team shared a new picture of Alison King and Vicky Myers, who play Carla and Lisa, and said: “Sparks fly between Carla and Lisa this week as a tender moment leaves Carla feeling confused.”

Corrie’s Sally Carman-Duttine, who plays Abi Webster in the ITV soap, was quick to show her support for Vicky, who is a close friend off-screen, writing: “Come on,” alongside the raising hands, flame and love heart eyes emojis.

But it was former Corrie star Sacha Parkinson who sparked a reaction when she commented on the post: “It’s giving ‘Sophie’ and I’m here for it.”

Viewers of the long-running soap will remember Sacha for joining in 2009 as Sian Powers, afriend of Sophie Webster, who was played by Brooke Vincent. They swiftly went on to become the soap’s first lesbian couple, but they fell short of tying the knot.

Sophie failed to make her wedding vows at the altar, resulting in Sian being left heartbroken and resulting in her subsequent departure from Weatherfield. Sascha left after filming her last scenes in November 2011.

Responding to Sacha’s comment, @jayburkez said: “Hopefully they don’t get the same ending.” @edits4umulti commented: “I miss Siophie sm! You and @brookelevivincent should come back together!” @doowamme wrote: “Just need siophie back one day pls to live out a happy ending and the world will heal.” @michaeljones8334 added: “Never Forget Sophie & Sian.”
