On social media, the Fleet lights – which the council said were meant to look like lanterns – were described as resembling knickers.
Despite that, many residents said they loved the lights and how their children enjoyed them.
One person added: “You have to dry your underwear somewhere”.
Rita Tong, the council’s executive officer, said: “Mostly, people and organisations have made an effort to reach out and say they are appreciative that the Council puts on the lights.”
