Peaceful beaches and lush landscapes are common sights across the Scottish coastline.

But ferry routes to the Small Isles offer even more breath-taking views of natural beauty.

The four islands, Canna, Rum, Muck, and Eigg, form part of the Inner Hebrides and those keen to check out the amazing wildlife and scenery can hop on a ferry.

There are various routes around the archipelago available to take and they have been described as particularly beautiful.

Ferries depart from Mallaig, a mainland town in the Highlands, and visit each of the islands.

The journeys are available to book with Caledonian MacBrayne ferries (CalMac).

Winter prices start from £5.25 for an adult ticket from Mallaig to Eigg, while a return costs £10.50.

Mallaig to Rum comes to £5.80, Mallaig to Muck costs £6.05 and a trip to Canna costs £7.10. The prices are valid until March 26, 2026.

One travel enthusiast who goes by @thechaoticscot on TikTok, shared her experience of the route to the Isle of Muck.

She described her trip as ‘the most spectacular ferry journey in the whole of Scotland’.

The staff on board the ship were the ‘loveliest and friendliest crew,’ according to the travel content creator.

She was also able to enjoy the outdoor seating on the deck and some amazing views.

From the ferry, Kay saw ‘lush landscapes and remote beaches of mountainous Rum’ as well as the ‘peaceful shores and cliffs of Canna’.

Her journey took over five hours and stopped of at Canna and Rum during the route.

If a picturesque Scottish island appeals to you, one went up for sale last year for as little as £120,000.

Gasker Island stretches about 70 acres and boasts a rocky coastline, fertile grassland, many lochans – small freshwater lakes – as well as a seal colony.

Currently the only property on the island is a small, unmanned lighthouse, owned and maintained periodically by the Northern Lighthouse Board, the general lighthouse authority for Scotland and the Isle of Man.

Situated five miles away from the nearest inhabited island and 75 miles from any train station the home could be paradise for an introvert.

However, it does still remain an inhospitable place to reach.

It has tide conditions often hindering travel to the island – and no amenities.
