A father of six who died in a Staffordshire village on Christmas Day has been named as 31-year-old Louis Price.

At just before 3.30am on Wednesday, police were called to a property in Norton Canes after reports that a man had suffered a cardiac arrest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 33-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder by Staffordshire Police. The force said it had been granted more time to question her.

Mr Price’s family paid tribute, saying: “Louis was well loved by his family and closest friends. He was a well-known member of the community, always had a smile on his face and brought a positive energy to anywhere he went. He always had time for anyone and would help anyone he could.

“Louis was a devoted fisherman. He had a passion for fishing and regularly went away on trips with friends and family. He loved football, he played for a team and was a lifelong supporter of Aston Villa.

“As a family, we are devastated at losing Louis. Life will never be the same without him, he leaves a huge hole in the lives of everyone who knew him. Christmas is a time we have always spent together as a family, to lose Louis at this time is even harder.

“Louis leaves behind his mum, dad, brother and sister, along with his six children. He has four daughters and two sons who he loved dearly. Louis had a big heart, he loved those closest to him.

“As a family, we would like to ask people to respect our privacy during this difficult time and we ask that people don’t speculate about what has happened.”

Community ‘shocked and saddened’

The cause of Mr Price’s death has not yet been revealed, with a post-mortem due to have take place on Boxing Day.

A neighbour said: “His poor parents were away on holiday when it happened. They will be absolutely devastated, and my heart goes out to them.

“You couldn’t think of anything worse to have on Christmas Day. It has shocked and saddened the whole little community here. It is beyond belief.”

Staffordshire Police said a referral had been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct “due to recent police contact”.

A force spokesman said: “We launched our investigation after being called by West Midlands Ambulance Service to reports that a man was in cardiac arrest at a house on Elm Road, Norton Canes. Sadly, he died at the scene.

“A 33-year-old woman, from Cannock, was arrested on suspicion of murder a short time later. A magistrate has granted detectives extra time to interview the suspect. The cause of death will be a matter for an inquest in due course.”

Officers urged anyone with information or CCTV, smart doorbell or dashcam footage to come forward.
