An exhibition that features photographs of a city’s most recognisable faces – all taken by students – has opened to the public.
Angela Rayner and Noel Gallagher are among 116 famous Mancunians depicted in a new exhibition of photo portraits.
Photography students from The Manchester College are showcasing their ‘Greater Mancunians’ project at the city’s Central Library.
The exhibition will run from Friday 19 April until Sunday 30 June.
The project features images of some of Manchester’s most famous and influential people – shot at numerous locations across the city.
The project – seven years in the making – was born in 2017 when Harry Yeates, a then-Manchester College student, set up a photoshoot with poet John Cooper Clarke under Blackfriars Bridge.
Photography tutor at The Manchester College and project lead, Harry Potts, encouraged other students to consider other individuals who had shaped the region culturally.
Since then, 150 students have participated in the project, and taken photographs of more than 100 contributors, including musician Noel Gallagher, athlete Ricky Hatton, actors Maxine Peake, Craig Cash and Bill Roache and artists Stan Chow and AKSE P19.
There will also be lesser-known faces, such as Susannah Penney a consultant head, neck and thyroid surgeon based at Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) and Judy Vickers, the Operations Manager at Lifeshare, Manchester’s oldest homeless charity.
