Expat in Spain shares the ‘one thing’ Britons must know before moving

Moving overseas can be exciting and Spain is one of the most popular spots for British expats.

Before deciding to relocate, an expat explained the main thing to consider.

Spain is full of stunning beaches and affordable housing so expats have their pick of where to settle.

Some resorts, like Torrevieja, are popular with Britons going on holiday or buying a holiday home.

Those moving to touristy parts of Spain permanently, however, could face a different reality.

An expat from Scotland to Torrevieja explained such resorts can be very quiet in the off-season.

Restaurants and bars that are bustling in the summer may not even open in winter, he explained.

The expat said: “If you’re looking to move here permanently, there is one thing you need to consider.

“In the wintertime, it gets really quiet, extremely quiet.”

He said most streets are empty and there is not as much to do in December compared to July or August.

“It is a lovely place to retire but when you’re of a certain age, you want something that’s just a little bit more lively,” the expat continued on the Scottish Couple In Spain YouTube channel.

If good entertainment options are important to expats, they should consider this when picking where to move.

This comes as another expat shared the worst thing they experienced after moving to Spain.

He said there “aren’t many” cons to life in the country but some processes are more difficult compared to the UK.

The expat explained: “Things sometimes take longer than in the UK.

“I’m used to Government processes and immigration process – things like that – moving pretty efficiently.”
