When travelling abroad, there is a lot to consider before boarding the flight and one of these things is safety.
You may want to go exploring in rural areas or explore a big metropolis but knowing where eachother are remains essential to keeping yourselves safe.
British expat Shaun Matthews, from the YouTube channel Retiring to Spain, shared the simple way he and his wife keep safe.
The expat said: “One of the things I love about being retired is I can go out, exploring. Now some people say isn’t your wife going to be worried about where you are?
The expat said the app is good for keeping track of where he is while he is exploring

“There’s an app that you can download called alert cops and on that is like a GPS tracker. She can activate it, whatever phone you have.
“So wherever I am, my wife can find me. Good idea really for you get old because if I fell over, by myself, you have to be sensible.”
With the app allowing you to track where you are, it provides peace of mind for people whilst going abroad.
Shaun explained that this app allows him to go exploring across the deserted parts of Spain, knowing that his wife can see where he is and he is safe.
He said: “I just love these places. These sites are amazing. Exploring is good for your health, going out exploring, as long as it is sensible.
“I’ve got a tracker on me, I got a tracker on my wife so we both know where we are. If you’re thinking about retiring and you like a bit of exploring, this is fantastic.
“I’m talking today in mid-November and I am still in my shorts. The temperature I think is 18.”
The expat was keen to emphasise that retiring and moving abroad to another country provides several opportunities and there is never not a boring moment.
Shaun said: “You got no worry about there is nothing to do. I disagree, it is finding the time to do it all.”
Another expat recently revealed some cultural differences when moving to Spain.
The expat told her viewers: “Between the hours of around 2.30pm and 4.30pm or 5pm, a lot of things are closed. The town goes to sleep and no one is doing anything.
“Here it is like, ‘no, we’re on holiday, we’re not even looking at our business phones, we’re just having fun.”
