A man who lost his penis in a horrific motorcycle accident has revealed how the accident affected his sex life.
The 33-year-old was riding his motorcycle in 2020 when he got hit by a drunk driver and felt ‘something sharp’ on impact as his genitalia split in half.
Though doctors were able to reconstruct it, the new penis became infected a week later, forcing it to be amputated altogether.
Despite being left with a small ‘stub,’ he said that he has learned to stop taking himself seriously and that he and his wife’s sex life has ‘improved a lot’ since the accident.

Ross Asdourian, a comedian in New York, suffered a penis fracture during sex in 2015. In his book Broken Bananah, he wrote that it took extensive surgery and several months of recovery before he was able to urinate or have sex again
‘It’s so crucial to surround yourself with people who are genuinely interested in your happiness,’ the unnamed man, who wants to remain anonymous, said.
‘It was great to have a wife who fully accepted me and never made me feel less than.’
The man is one of about 600 Americans to suffer a penile fracture every year, which typically occurs during sex or from physical trauma like a motorcycle accident.

In an Ask Me Anything (AMA) thread on Reddit, the motorcycle victim explained that the first year after losing his penis took the biggest toll on him.
‘Mentally, the first year was awful and I have spent so much time with my shrink,’ he said.
‘I felt I was no longer a man and didn’t want to stay married and felt I could never look at my wife again.’
He noted that he was especially self conscious because the small amount left wasn’t enough for penetrative sex, so he repressed any sexual desire.
However, after about two years, the user said that he ‘stopped taking [himself] so seriously’ and used humor to cope with the situation.
This renewed sense of confidence also allowed he and his wife to start experimenting more in the bedroom.
Instead of penetrative sex, they opt for sex toys like strap-ons and focus on prostate stimulation.
‘[Our sex life] has improved a lot. We strap on and learn to stimulate in other ways,’ he said. ‘We’re both very happy sexually now.’
He also noted that he can still ejaculate out of the remaining portion of his penis.
The man also revealed that after ‘doctors did some work in there,’ he is able to urinate normally, though he can no longer stand up. ‘I seat like a woman,’ he said.
The accident also caused several infections in his urethra, which required a temporary catheter. ‘I don’t hold pee as well as I did before. But it’s not a big issue if I take care of business regularly,’ the man said.
One of the man’s testicles was also removed after the accident.
The man noted that his wife has been ‘extremely supportive’ throughout the ordeal, and that ‘a supportive partner is everything’ in recovery. For now, the couple is looking into adopting children.
‘I’d do anything to have my part back. But what happened happened, and I’ve learned to enjoy the small positives that came with it,’ he said.

This structure is mostly made of collagen, that surrounds and supports the parts of the penis that fills with blood during an erection.
The injury is usually accompanied by a distinct cracking, popping or snapping sound.
