- Dan Orlovsky drew huge plaudits for hosting the experimental segment
ESPN and Dan Orlovsky stunned viewers this week as they debuted virtual reality technology to break down Bills star Josh Allen.
Allen and his Buffalo squad took down the Chiefs last weekend to hand their AFC rivals their first loss of the season.
And to analyze a pivotal third down conversion in the game, Orlovsky – a former NFL quarterback himself – put on a VR headset to assume Allen’s point of view on the play.
Orlovsky spent several minutes utilizing the technology, which came from NFL’s Next Gen Stats and the StatusPRO Visualizer (the latter company was founded by Orlovksy’s ESPN colleague Andrew Hawkins, who appeared alongside him during the segment).
The breakdown went over extremely well with fans after Orlovsky posted the segment on X.

I’ll take this over useless football debates all day every day,’ one wrote.
‘This is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen on television,’ a second fan gushed. ‘They have to do this all the time… and expand to other sports. This is unbelievable.’
‘This needs to be a reoccurring segment please,’ a third added.
Orlovsky’s fellow NFL alums also loved the technology, with former linebacker Will Compton writing, ‘This is awesome.’
Ex-Steelers safety Ryan Clark added, ‘Yea that this is fire!!’
And Orlovsky himself wrote on X that it was ‘One of the coolest things I’ve ever been a part of.’
The Bills have another big game against the 49ers next weekend, so perhaps Orlovsky will have some more virtual reality analysis of Allen afterwards.
