Erik ten Hag believes Manchester United will benefit from Jadon Sancho’s resurgence at Borussia Dortmund – whether it pushes up his transfer fee or if the club decide to reintegrate their outcast winger this summer.

Ten Hag and Sancho had a fall-out at the start of the season that led to the £73million signing training on his own for four months before returning to Dortmund on loan in January.

Both men now face an uncertain future at United. The manager is battling to save his job under new co-owners Ineos, who must also decide between welcoming Sancho back or selling him.

United face making a significant loss, but at least the 24-year-old’s form for Dortmund has increased his value – especially after he produced a man-of-the-match display in this week’s Champions League semi-final first-leg win over Paris Saint-Germain, in which he eclipsed Kylian Mbappe.

‘So let’s say this – he played very good (against PSG) and he’s a very good player,’ said Ten Hag. ‘He showed why United bought him and he showed he represents a high value for us, which is good. I’m happy for Jadon, for the performance, and we’ll see what is going to happen in the future.’

The Dutchman also admitted he is playing catch-up with Jason Wilcox after two weeks working alongside United’s new technical director, as they draw up a list of transfer targets for the summer.

‘We’ve talked every day since last week,’ he added. ‘In a very short period we have to build an intense relationship. We are working now to a plan. We had a plan already before he stepped in, and of course we have to get aligned. It takes time but we don’t have so much time.’

Meanwhile, United’s FA Cup final clash with Manchester City on May 25 will delay several players reporting for international duty ahead of Euro 2024, meaning Gareth Southgate is set to name a provisional squad of more than 30.

Southgate could be deprived of up to 13 stars for the start of his training camp and the first warm-up game against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 3, with others potentially involved in Champions League or Europa Conference League finals.
