Chas Dingle will take a temporary break from the village following her cancer diagnosis in Emmerdale.
The soap has been airing emotional scenes as Chas discovered that she has the same kind of breast cancer that her mother Faith Dingle passed away from a few years ago.
Chas has been cautioned by her doctor that while she has triple-negative breast cancer like her mother, she will have a unique treatment plan since no two cases are completely alike.
Next week, Chas will have the heartbreaking responsibility of telling young daughter Eve Dingle about her cancer diagnosis.
She finds support from ex-husband Paddy as she comes to terms with her future, though he’s disappointed when Chas decides to take their daughter on a holiday without him.
Nevertheless, the family are all there to support Chas and Eve as they set off on their brief break from the village.
Before they go, Chas is stunned as Mandy hands her a wad of cash from Paddy. Chas is left questioning whether it’s right to accept the money.
The implications of Chas’s diagnosis will be felt throughout the village, including her estranged son Aaron Dingle considering leaving the village for good once again.
When this issue-based storyline was announced earlier this month, actress Lucy Pargeter acknowledged that Chas is “very worried” about her future following the diagnosis.
“Chas is completely thrown by this, sideswiped as it was just not something she was expecting him to say. She is likely in denial. She doesn’t want to face this,” the actress said.
The storyline is bound to be impactful for viewers since it was less than two years ago that the soap said goodbye to Faith following her own cancer diagnosis.
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
