What did you miss?
The One Show host Alex Jones was left in tears after a special segment saw Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson surprising a young fan.
The latest episode of the BBC show featured Jacob, a 11-year-old who has been fundraising for the hospice that cared for his late mother Andrea following her cancer diagnosis. Jacob was a huge fan of The Rock and Disney film Moana – in which the actor voices the character Maui – so the show organised a surprise meeting.
Their get together moved Jones, who gushed afterwards: “Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. I absolutely love him now!”
What, how and why?
Jacob, whose mother died when he was seven, appeared on The One Show with his dad, who told how Jacob was determined to raise funds to help other children going through what he did. So far he has raised over £150,000 in total doing things like mountain climbing and trekking across the Pyrenees.
The programme set up a pretend interview, with Jacob believing it was about his fundraising. The video of the day they met showed him looking stunned as The Rock walked into the room.
The star acted as if it was a chance meeting, claiming he was in the building for an interview too, and then started asking Jacob questions about why he was there.
He then said: “Can I tell you something?
“I really wasn’t doing an interview in here. I came in to meet you. I have heard a lot about you, I know your name is Jacob, I know all the amazing work and the fundraising that you do for you mum.
“So that’s the reason why I crashed your interview, I wanted to really just come in and shake your hand and tell you really how impressed I was and how much I admire you for your strength and your resilience and all the incredible work you are doing.”

The Rock then invited Jacob and his dad to the London premiere of Moana 2.
What did Alex Jones say?
Jones was tearful after the segment, and seemed to be dabbing at her eyes. Her co-host Roman Kemp leaned over and asked her: “Are you OK?”
She replied: “You know, it’s lovely isn’t it? He was so brilliant wasn’t he?
“Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. I absolutely love him now! I liked him before.”
Viewers were emotional too, with one posting on X: “59 year old not afraid to admit she bawling her eyes out here!! Wow Jacob.” “Tissues please,” said another.
Someone else wrote: “The Rock is such a nice man. Well done Jacob.”
The One Show airs on BBC One at 7pm on weekdays.
Moana 2 premieres in UK cinemas on Friday, 29 November.
