  • Dustin Poirier will make his return to the UFC on the thrilling UFC 299 card
  • The American lightweight will take on Benoit Saint-Denis in a five-round fight
  • Is it a myth that Anthony Joshua struggles against southpaws? The Hook

Dustin Poirier will make his highly-anticipated return to the octagon at UFC 299 after UFC supremo Dana White confirmed the American’s next bout.

Poirier has not stepped foot inside the octagon since July last year, when he suffered a brutal head-kick KO against fellow American Justin Gaethje.

Now, following an announcement from UFC chief White, ‘The Diamond’ will make his return in UFC 299’s co-main event against Benoit Saint-Denis.

Poirier had previously been tipped to feature on the highly-anticipated UFC 300 card, which is expected to have the organisation’s biggest names fighting on it.

However, following White’s announcement, it’s now been confirmed that the American will fight in a five-round thriller on the UFC card prior.

Poirier will be looking to bounce back from the disappointing defeat to Poirier, where he was dealt a brutal KO defeat.

‘The Diamond’ has never lost consecutive fights in his career and will be hoping to ensure that record when he takes on Saint Denis on March 9th.

While he suffered defeat in his only bout of 2023 however but fans will remember his dominant victory over Michael Chandler in November 2022, which should give him hope of securing a win.

Saint-Denis, on the other hand, is a name that has rarely cropped in the lightweight conversation in recent years, however, has begun to prove himself in the division.

At UFC 295, the French fighter recorded an impressive head-kick KO against Matt Frevola and earned himself a Performance of the Night bonus as well.

His record within the UFC stands at 5-1, having only suffered defeat in his debut UFC bout back in 2021.

Elsewhere on the UFC 299 card, Sean O’Malley will defend his bantamweight title against Marlon Vera.

Meanwhile, welterweight match-ups between Gilbert Burns and Jack Della Maddalena, and Kevin Holland and Michael Page, promise an exciting evening.

UFC chief White also revealed that lightweight star Charles Oliveira will take on Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300.

During the thrilling event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in April, White confirmed that ‘do Bronx’ will fight Tsarukyan, off the back of his win against Beneil Dariush.

He added that the winner of the bout will become the No. 1 contender for champion Islam Makhachev, who White expects to return in the summer after recovering from an injury.
