Yankees fans were enraged during the ninth inning of Friday’s World Series Game 1 loss to the Dodgers when a home fan interfered with a potential go-ahead homer from Gleyber Torres.

With the game tied 2-2, the second baseman blasted a shot to center field and it initially appeared that the ball was gone.

However, umpires quickly determined that a fan had reached over the wall and interfered with the play, before confirming that ruling and putting Torres on second base.

Aaron Judge then popped out to end the inning and fans were furious at the controversial decision.

‘Keep the ball in play, why would you want to catch it? DO NOT INTERFERE! Freaking idiot man!,’ one said on X.

‘That was going out F*** THAT FAN!!!!!!!!,’ another raged.

‘Dumbest fan ever,’ a third said.

And a fourth added, ‘Ban that fan from baseball.’

The fan was later seen being escorted out of the stadium by security.

The interference proved to be a hugely significant moment in the game as the Dodgers would go on to win in extra innings via a Freddie Freeman walk-off grand slam.

The Yankees actually re-took the lead in the 10th inning after Jazz Chisholm Jr. reached home after a fielder’s choice hit to shortstop by Anthony Rizzo.

But after the Yankees chose to load the bases with two outs by intentionally walking Mookie Betts, Nestor Cortes couldn’t get the last out of the night as Freeman homered to right field to earn a 6-3 Dodgers win.

Cortes, a lefty starter, was called upon from the bullpen having not pitched since Sept. 18 because of an elbow injury.

The night was a low-scoring one to begin, as the game was scoreless until Will Smith’s sacrifice fly in the fifth inning, which brought home Kiké Hernández for a 1-0 lead.

But Giancarlo Stanton responded an inning later with a 412-foot bomb with Juan Soto on base, and the Yankees were five outs away from a huge Game 1 win after Tommy Edman grounded out to begin the eighth inning.

However, Shohei Ohtani would make his first major contribution of the night as he blasted a double off of the wall, before advancing to third following an error from Torres.

He was then batted home moments later by a Betts sacrifice fly, tying the game and setting the stage for Freeman’s eventual walk-off.

Freeman, who missed three games during the National League playoffs because of the injury to his right ankle, didn’t have an extra-base hit this postseason until legging out a triple earlier on Friday.

And later in the night, he joined Kirk Gibson and Joe Carter (1993 Toronto Blue Jays) as the only players to hit walk-off homers with their team trailing in a World Series game – though Freeman is the first to end a World Series game with a grand Slam.

The game was the third straight Series opener to go extra innings.

Game 2 is set for Saturday at Los Angeles between teams meeting in the World Series for the record 12th time and the first time since 1981.
